The Scorpio Races By Maggie Stiefvater.
Published: October 18th,2011
Publisher: Scholastic Press
Hardcover
Pages:409
Synopsis: It happens at the start of every
November: the Scorpio Races. Riders attempt to keep hold of their water horses
long enough to make it to the finish line. Some riders live. Others
die.
At age nineteen, Sean Kendrick is the returning champion. He is a
young man of few words, and if he has any fears, he keeps them buried deep,
where no one else can see them.
Puck Connolly is different. She never
meant to ride in the Scorpio Races. But fate hasn’t given her much of a chance.
So she enters the competition — the first girl ever to do so. She is in no way
prepared for what is going to happen.
Wow,I loved this book.Easily in my top 5 favorite books of all-time.
So let's start out with the writing style.I absolutely LOVED it.It switches from the point of view of Puck and Sean almost every chapter.I personally liked Sean's POV better because he's a boy. There are few books in YA with a boy's POV,and I try to read as many books with a boy's POV as possible.
I also loved that there was no "romance" until about 300 pages in.In most YA books, you meet the love interest within the first 100 pages and the main character is swooning over them. Then comes along another guy, thus forming the love triangle. The main character dates the wrong guy for a while, and in the end,she ends up with the other guy.
But not in this book.
I loved how Maggie wrote about no love triangle whatsover. There was also no talk about how Puck would just LOVE to touch his hair and kiss him or vise versa.
Now Sean.I don't really know what to say about him.Unlike other characters in books *cough* Day *cough*,Sean doesn't say "Wow she's so pretty,I'd like to kiss her." In fact Puck and him kiss only like what?Once?Twice.Something like that.Besides his fame,Sean seems unaffected by the fact that he is the greatest racer and still falls in love with one of the Connollys.
There's not much to say about Puck either.Basically she is fearless, brave and has a LOT of courage to participate in the Scorpio Races.Did I mention that she is the only girl in history to compete in the Races?Awesome right?
So as you can see this was the most horrible review in all of man kind and please forgive me! I will make awesomer (is that a word?) reviews in the future! I give this book 5/5 stars.
