Paperback
Synopsis:There were no surprises in Gatlin
County.
We were pretty much the epicenter of the middle of
nowhere.
At least, that's what I thought.
Turns out, I
couldn't have been more wrong.
There was a
curse.
There
was a girl.
And in the end, there was
a grave.
Lena
Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern
town of Gatlin has ever seen, and
she's struggling to conceal her power and
a curse that has haunted her family
for generations. But even within the
overgrown gardens, murky swamps and
crumbling graveyards of the forgotten
South, a secret cannot stay hidden
forever.
Ethan Wate, who has been
counting the months until he can escape
from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams
of a beautiful girl he has never met. When
Lena moves into the town's
oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is
inexplicably drawn to her and
determined to uncover the connection between
them.
In a town with no
surprises, one secret could change
everything.
So,I finished reading Beautiful
Creatures a couple of hours ago,and while I didn't really like it,I didn't hate
it.
I think a part of the beginning and middle was boring. The
ending was,of course, the best part.
Let's start out with
Ethan, our main character. I loved this book because this book was in a guy's
point of view.I haven't read many books that are in a guy's POV and the few
that I have, always switches points of views of characters every chapter.Ethan
wasn't my favorite character, but he wasn't my most hated one, either.I think It
was interesting to read how Ethan reacting in certain events,as it was much
different then I expect a girl to react.Overall, I loved reading from Ethan's
point of view (from a guy's POV in general).
Now onto Lena,the love
interest and basically the most important character in the book. One thing I
loved about this book is there wasn't a stupid, unecessary love triangle, like
most books these days.I think Lena was a great match for Ethan, and a wonderful
character in general (even though she wasn't my favorite character, either.) In
some situations,Lena reacted as one might think she might. She was very realistic
(to me anyways) and wasn't as stupid as some other female characters in other
books. There was also one part in the ending where there is a scene in her point
of view which was quite interesting and hoped there was more.
In this
book,Macon Ravenwood was my favorite character. He was Lena's uncle/gaurdian and
everyone in town fears him.Litterly EVERYONE.All the more reason to like him.His
relationship with Ethan was also quite...interesting.The thing I liked about
Macon was that when you think you know everything about him...BAM! He reveals
yet another secret he's kept hidden.I could go on forever about him,but I'll
probably reveal spoilers,so I'll stop
here.
In general,I liked the book,but I
thought it would be much better. In general,I loved the writing style and the
characters but I thought the plot could be much better.I enjoyed it enought that
I will be checking out the second book,though.3/5 stars.
